The First Sustainable DWR Finish for PPE Fabrics

Safety Components, a division of Elevate Textiles, enjoys a long history of developing fabric technologies that move the industry forward. With patented, high performance flame resistant outer shell fabrics like PBI Max™ and Armor AP™, thermal liners like Glide Ice™ and Prism™, and wildland/tech rescue fabrics like Sigma — more large metro cites specify and wear materials made by Safety Components than any other.

PF Zero™ is a non-fluorocarbon based water and stain repellent finish with exceptional durability for maximum protection. PF Zero™ is the first commercially available fluorine free water repellent finish for first responders, providing excellent water absorption resistance in accordance to NFPA 1971.

Sustainability

At Elevate Textiles, one of the largest textile companies in the world, improving sustainability for a lower carbon footprint is a cornerstone of every new initiative. The development of a fluorine free water repellent finish is part of a critical strategy undertaken by Safety Components. The result is a finish that requires 15% less energy in production. PF Zero™ by Safety Components is the first non-fluorinated durable water repellent finish developed specifically for PPE fabrics.

Performance

PF Zero™ passes NFPA 1971 water absorption resistance requirements (NFPA 1971: must be less than 15% after 5 washes).

Water Absorption Comparison

UL has evaluated and certified PF Zero as a replacement finish for fabrics sold by Safety Components under NFPA 1971/1951. Important performance characteristics such as flame resistance, TPP, and THL remain the same for Safety Components fabrics regardless of the finish.

The materials Safety Components makes today, the materials made for over 100 years, and the materials we will make long into the future are safe to use and this technology represents a renewed focus on a cleaner environment.

Now Available

Safety Components has already started shipping materials finished with PF Zero. It will likely take several months before every garment made with a Safety Components PF Zero treated fabric has filtered through the supply chain and into the hands of first responders.
